‘Flags of Honor’ for our heroes

Posted

We applaud the New York State Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, Inc., along with the Rome Free Academy Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps program as they present “Flags of Honor” to the Rome community starting June 14.

The event will be held near the B-52 bomber display at Griffiss Business and Technology Park, and will run from June 14-21.

Proceeds will go to the state Vietnam Veterans Memorial Perpetual Care Endowment Fund.

Here’s how it works: The Flags of Honor will represent any special person — a hero who made a difference in someone’s life. Police officers, firefighters, first responders, active and retired military, teachers, parents, doctors, nurses and health care workers would, for instance, be worthy of “Flags of Honor.”

Mark Jennings, Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial project coordinator, noted in a Daily Sentinel story:

“Because with the effects that COVID-19 have had on all of us, you may want to honor or remember a friend or loved one who unfortunately was lost” to the virus. Flag sponsorship is $35 per flag, and the sponsorship deadline is June 1. Those wishing to sponsor a flag should contact Lesley Grogan at 315-725-3294 or Della Pray at 315-491-0465. They will also provide more details about the project and give information on how to acquire sponsorship forms.
