Fitness Mill steps up to support programs, services for people with autism

NEW YORK MILLS — The 2021 Virtual Walk for Autism has hit the ground running with the naming of the Fitness Mill as the lead sponsor of this year’s event, a major fundraiser for the programs and services offered by the Kelberman Center.

Alex Carbone, Fitness Mill owner, said that fitness for everyone of all abilities is so important to a happy and healthy life. Tara Costello, Kelberman Center executive director, detailed the significant support that The Fitness Mill has provided for the 2021 Virtual Walk for Autism event, recognizing the impact of inclusion, wellness and positive and encouraging activities for people of all abilities — particularly during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Fitness for All has had an unbelievable positive impact on individuals with special needs,” Carbone said, and “the Fitness Mill is honored to be recognized and trusted by the Kelberman Center to develop and deliver such great opportunities for individuals and their families. We not only gained a partnership with everyone, but we gained friends.”

The Kelberman Center’s 2021 Virtual Walk for Autism, held throughout the month of April, encourages friends, family members, school groups, businesses and other organizations to pick a day in April and a distance to walk to raise funds and awareness for autism programs and services at The Kelberman Center. Participants can register for the virtual walk by visiting and from there can form teams and start fundraising.

All proceeds from the virtual Walk for Autism will help provide support for children, adults and families with autism in our community.

“We are so thankful for the generous support of the Fitness Mill for our Virtual Walk for Autism,” Costello said. “Our Walk from day one has always been about community involvement, raising funding for children and adults with autism right here in the Mohawk Valley – for our neighbors, friends and family members. Stepping in as lead sponsor of our Walk this year strengthens our already thriving relationship with the Fitness Mill in regard to fitness opportunities for the families we support, reinforcing the important relationship between health, wellness and ability.”

The Fitness Mill, located on Main Street, club offers an extensively equipped workout facility with innovative training programs and a dedicated staff, event organizers said, while the Kelberman Center, an affiliate of Upstate Caring Partners, Inc. is the leading provider of autism services for children, adults and families in the Mohawk Valley, providing comprehensive programming and services for people throughout all phases of life, from early childhood through adulthood, including: Home and Community Based, Education, Clinical, Residential and Recreation.
