Fitness center raises funds for breast care center

In early November, Tim Skjellerup and Alicia Skjellerup, owners of Rome Fit Body Boot Camp, presented a donation of $2,507 to the Mohawk Valley Health System Breast Care Center.

Tim, Alicia and members of the Rome Fit Body Boot Camp raised the funds during the month of October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.

The campaign was held throughout October and asked members to nominate a coach or member to complete an exercise called a “burpee” for $1 each.

In addition to the Rome Fit Body Boot Camp, another Fit Body facility in Oakdale, New York, ran the challenge at their location to contribute to the cause.

“Our hope was to raise money to create ‘hope kits’ for women undergoing treatment for breast cancer,” said Alicia Skjellerup. “Each kit includes items of comfort such as tea, unscented lotion, warm slipper socks, an encouraging bracelet and a journal.

“The MVHS Breast Care Center is extremely grateful to Tim and Alicia as well as all of the employees and members of the Rome and Oakdale Fit Body Boot Camps for their generous donation,” said Shannon Mathewson, MBA, vice president of Operations at MVHS, in a statement. “Our patients and their families will benefit greatly from the generosity of these individuals.”
