First Source upgrades technology to improve member services

NEW HARTFORD — First Source Federal Credit Union is a full-service financial institution, with savings and loan solutions, serving members and the community since 1938. Its corporate offices are at 4451 Commercial Drive, New Hartford. Originally founded as Utica Teachers Federal Credit Union, the name changed to First Source in 1992 to better reflect its broad and diverse membership. First Source provides financial solutions with a personal approach to each member.

First Source is in its 85th year of business. It has branches in New Hartford, south Utica, north Utica, Herkimer, and Rome, and Washington Mills will open soon. It also has a Member Care Center, online banking, and mobile banking. Its members can use First Source Interactive ATMs and more than 30,000 ATMs that don’t charge a fee.

Additionally, First Source provides customized education to the community free of charge. It works with schools from kindergarten to college and with businesses and non-profits, in order to help the community make smarter financial decisions. It also offers new home buyer seminars and financial wellness reviews with free credit checks.

First Source spent a lot of time in 2022 researching and implementing new technologies to improve its services and the experience of its members. It changed 12 standard ATMs into interactive ones so that members could bank on their own time and when it was most convenient for them.

The interactive ATMs also have live video support when they are open for business.

The credit union made it easier for members to open accounts, close loans, and do other business from the comfort of their own homes by making it possible for most loans to be signed electronically. It also added self-service appointment scheduling, which lets you choose the location, date, and time of your meeting, as well as the representative you want to meet with.

Soon this year, the credit union will launch its new Video Engagement Technology, allowing members to interact with a live First Source Financial Service Representative remotely. Also, the new Washington Mills location is set to open this spring. It will offer contactless card payment options for both business and consumer credit and debit cards, chat, a redesigned phone experience with better artificial intelligence in some areas, new interactive ATM locations, and continued growth and expansion.

The credit union also started a program called the Community Heroes Consumer Loan Program. A program originally launched for mortgages, offering rebates and discounts for those that dedicate their lives to serving others, is now expanding to all consumer loans, excluding only lines of credit, which are credit cards and HELOC (home equity line of credit).

The organization’s Member Care Center has also grown. It is a multi-service contact center, locally staffed and operated, and able to handle 90% of its members’ everyday banking needs, including new accounts, loans, account servicing, and more.
