TOWN OF AUGUSTA — Volunteer firefighters stopped a garage fire from spreading to a home on Knoxboro Road on Father’s Day.
Oriskany Falls fire officials said the alarm was raised at 12:25 p.m. for a fire in an attached garage at a residence on Knoxboro Road in Augusta. Responding crews found the garage fully involved and crews set multiple hose-lines to battle the blaze. Seven departments from Oneida and Madison counties were called to the scene.
Fire officials said they worked to keep the fire from spreading and succeeded in saving the main residential portion of the home, though there was some smoke and water damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No one was reportedly injured.
Officials said the 80-degree temperatures on Sunday hampered the firefighters. Extra volunteers were brought in to help with overhaul and replace exhausted firefighters. All crews were back in service by 3:30 p.m.
The Oriskany Falls, Munnsville, Madison, Vernon Center, Deansboro, Waterville and Clinton fire departments responded.
