TOWN OF TRENTON — No one was injured when a decommissioned school bus caught on fire on Route 12 on Tuesday.
Trenton Joint Fire Chief Kevin Kalk said only a single driver was on board shortly before noon when he noticed a problem and pulled over in a parking area just north of Route 365.
Kalk said there were no students on the bus, because the bus was decommissioned and was on its way to a dealership.
“The bus had a mechanical issue and the driver pulled over to check it out,” Kalk said.
The mechanical issue quickly turned into an engine fire, belching thick black smoke into the air. Barneveld firefighters responded and knocked down the flames in about five minutes with a single handline, the chief stated.
Overhauling the bus took another 30 minutes, Kalk explained. No firefighters were injured.
