Two people have been displaced following an early morning fire in the Cornhill district in Utica on Thursday.
Fire officials said heavy fire and smoke was visible at 1129 Neilson St. after the alarm was raised at 4:40 a.m. Firefighters battled the flames for nearly an hour and a half before they were under control. Two neighboring homes on either side were also damaged by the heat, officials said.
Two residents were able to escape the home and a dog was rescued, officials said.
The American Red Cross is providing food, shelter and clothing to the two residents.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials said the residence is a total loss.
