Fire displaces family of five in New York Mills

NEW YORK MILLS — A family of five was displaced from an early morning house fire on Greenman Avenue, according to fire officials.

Authorities said a passerby called 9-1-1 at about 5:45 a.m. for a fire on the second floor of 14 Greenman Ave. Two adults and three children escaped the residence before firefighters arrived on the scene, reporting the second floor fully involved in flames.

Volunteers from three fire departments battled the blaze and authorities said the fire was under control within an hour.

One of the adult residents was treated for minor burns, authorities said.

The cause remains under investigation. Greenman Avenue runs east and west between Main Street and Commercial Drive.

The New York Mills, Yorkville and Whitesboro fire departments responded.
