Fire Dept. to host Battle of the Badges blood drive

The Rome Fire Department will be hosting their second Battle of the Badges blood drive between the city’s fire and police departments on Tuesday.

The two agencies use the friendly rivalry between them to see who can recruit the most blood donors.

“It’s a friendly way for us to get together,” said Deputy Fire Chief Mark S. Kohlbrenner. “Most of the time when we’re working together, it’s a bad situation. This is a more friendly environment.”

The new Battle of the Badges II will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19 at the Resurrection Life Church at 628 Floyd Ave. Donors will be given either a fire department or police department sticker of their choice to be placed on the scoreboard.

“It’s important anytime you give blood, you save lives,” Kohlbrenner stated. “Walk-ins are welcome,” he added.

The first Battle of the Badges blood drive in September collected almost 50 units of blood.

To register to donate, you can visit or call Julie Chrysler at 315-338-7134. You do not need to register to donate blood at the Battle of the Badges II.
