State financial aid updates will be among topics at the Board of Education's regular meeting tonight. Some of the agenda items also include resolutions regarding certain upcoming capital project work, and continuing the agreement with the City of Rome for school resource officers
The meeting, to begin at 6:30 p.m., is closed to the public due to COVID-19 concerns. A live stream will be available at https://stream.meet.google.com/stream/62300adc-73c8-4c58-8e04-f0c5d4a0584a online.
Regarding state financial aid to the Rome school district for 2020-21, full details are pending a new fiscal 2021 state budget which reached a tentative agreement Wednesday.
An update on state aid figures will be provided at tonight's board meeting, said Rome district Superintendent Peter C. Blake. But he said there would be no discussion of the district's proposed 2020-21 budget, for which an initial draft was presented at the board's March 4 meeting; state aid is a major revenue source for the district budget.
"With the new release of school aid and working with various people around the region on understanding how federal and state revenues are going to flow, we are at a point where we are going back to square one," Blake said today. He cited uncertainties in details for some of the latest state budget plans, adding "as soon as we get the right information from Albany, we will be able to produce a new draft budget."
The district plans to "share the draft budget via a video, as opposed to a board meeting where it will be more difficult to understand and follow given the online format," Blake commented.
