ROME — A fatal medical emergency resulted in a motor vehicle crash on upper North Madison Street in Rome sometime early Thursday morning, according to the Rome Fire Department.

Fire officials said an adult male was driving on North Madison Street sometime early Thursday morning when it is believed he suffered a medical emergency. The man lost control of his vehicle and it crashed into a tree and several other vehicles in a driveway in the 1600 block, near the intersection with West Chestnut Street.

Neighbors awoke and discovered the crash, calling 911 at about 6:38 a.m., officials said. The victim was discovered dead inside the vehicle.

The Rome Police Department is investigating.
