I am a farmer writing to support another farmer. Marianne Buttenschon is running in a Democratic party primary to replace Anthony Brindisi in the State Assembly. Among all of their other accomplishments, Don and Marianne Buttenschon started the Buttenschon Christmas Tree Farm in 1994 and have sustained it ever since. I can tell you from experience that starting and maintaining a business, particularly a new farm, is no easy task. But Marianne did it and over that period of time she has become an important part of Oneida County’s most productive and reliable economic sector, Agriculture.
Marianne is the only candidate for Assembly to recognize the indispensable role farmers play in the 119th District. She has already said, that when elected, she will ask to be placed on the Assembly’s Standing Committee on Agriculture. The Utica-Rome area has not been represented on the Agriculture Committee since RoAnn Destito left the state legislature in 2011. The importance of having a Utica-Rome presence on the committee is proven by Ms. Destito’s having served on the committee for at least the last eleven years of her Assembly tenure.
While the 119th District is not always viewed as a farming community, one should not forget the number of people from Marcy, Whitestown, Frankfort and Floyd who make their living from the soil. And even those who are not farmers depend on farmers to live. Marianne Buttenschon is the only person running for Assembly who understands that the health of our cities and the future of our towns depend on expanding our agricultural economy. Please vote for Marianne Buttenschon in the Democratic primary for NYS Assembly!
