Family escapes house fire in Herkimer County
FRANKFORT — A Herkimer County family escaped harm after a chimney fire spread through the second floor of their home and the roof on Wild Flower Circle Thursday night, according to fire officials.
The alarm was raised at about 8 p.m. for a house fire at 103 Wild Flower Circle in Frankfort. Three volunteer fire departments responded, and crews reported heaving smoke and flames visible on arrival. The family had escaped the home prior to firefighters arriving.
Crews worked for more than an hour to get the fire under control, officials said. No firefighters were harmed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Frankfort Center, Frankfort Hill and Schuyler fire departments responded, with Frankfort on standby. The departments returned to the scene at about 4:40 a.m. Friday for a rekindling that was quickly knocked down.
