COOPERSTOWN — A former physical education teacher and coach at Cooperstown Central School has admitted in Federal Court to coercing teenage girls to send him lewd videos, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Justin Hobbie, 41, of Springfield Center, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Binghamton on Thursday to three counts of sexual exploitation of a child, prosecutors said. Hobbie faces between 15 to 90 years in prison when he returns for sentencing on Dec. 19.
Authorities said Hobbie worked as a physical education and health teacher at Cooperstown Central School, and he coached girls soccer and track. Authorities said between 2015 and 2018, Hobbie persuaded and enticed three girls under the age of 16 to send him lewd photos and videos of themselves. Authorities said Hobbie recorded and saved these videos.
Hobbie is also required to register with the state as a sex offender.
