Endangered species talk July 18

CANASTOTA – Come to the Great Swamp Conservancy, 8375 N. Main St., at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18, to hear the story about how one person can make a big difference.

A threatened local species is making a comeback, thanks to a graduate student at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. While defending her master’s thesis, Cody Gilbertson researched for several years to determine how to expand the safety and home base of the endangered Chittenango Ovate Amber Snail (Novisuccinea chittenangoensis).

She will share this project that was advanced in conjunction with the state Department of Environmental Conservation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
