UTICA — The Empire State Classic outdoor hockey game between American Hockey League rivals Utica Comets and the Syracuse Crunch that was set to be played on Feb. 13, at Griffiss Business & Technology Park has been postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic until next season.
The Comets released a statement on their Facebook page saying, “Unfortunately, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and the current state guidelines, we have made the decision to postpone this event, with plans to reschedule the event later in the 2021 calendar year.”
The statement continues, “We want to ensure that when it does take place, the Empire State Classic is able to proceed without the limitations and restrictions that we are likely to still experience next month. We are fully committed to locking in a rescheduled date later this year, and we plan to provide you with a world-class event when we are able to do so safely!”
The Comets are set to begin their abbreviated season on Feb. 5.
