Embezzling charged in Utica
UTICA — A Herkimer woman is accused of embezzling more than $50,000 from her employer in Utica over the course of three years, according to the Utica Police Department.
Police said Diana Gacek, 31, worked for an engineering firm in Utica and used her position to alter payroll accounts, change bank statements and issue fraudulent checks over a period of three years. The name of the business was not released by the authorities.
Police said Gacek stole more than $50,000 from the company over the 3-year period.
The company discovered the theft in April 2022 during an annual evaluation of their finances.
Following an investigation, police said Gacek was taken into custody this week on one count of felony second-degree grand larceny. She is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.
Police said the investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible.
