Elizabeth A. Fleming Cross

VERONA BEACH – Elizabeth A. Fleming Cross, age 90, of Lakeshore Rd, South, formerly of Oneida, died peacefully in the comfort of her home on Friday, April 5, 2019.

She was born September 7, 1928 in Oneida, the daughter of the late William C. and Mary E. Knelleken Fleming and was educated at St. Patrick’s School and graduated from Oneida High School.

On October 6, 1951, she was united in marriage to William Hinman Cross at St. Joseph’s Church of Oneida. She was predeceased by her husband in April 1997.

Prior to her retirement from Oneida City School District as a Library Aide, she was employed by New York Telephone Company as a telephone operator.

Liz enjoyed bowling in various leagues in Oneida and golfing with her friends. She was a member of Crafty Ladies of Verona Beach, and St. Joseph’s Travel Club.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s in Verona Beach and previously St. Joseph’s Church of Oneida where she was a member of the choir.

Surviving are her four daughters and son-in-law, Mary Jean and Christopher Collins of Oneida; Catherine “Kitty” Horning of Parish; Christine “Tina” Cross of Verona Beach and Sarah Campbell of Verona Beach; her grandchildren John (Kimberley) Paul and Desiree Paul of Oneida; Christopher II “CJ” (Krista) of Durhamville, Kim Fox of Canastota; Luke Horning of Hastings; Bowman (Lori) Horning of Parish; Victoria (Trevor) Race of Parish, Audrey Horning and Jay Hallenbeck of Verona Beach; William of Parish; Brian (wife Serena Becker) Campbell and Maryanne Campbell (husband Andrew Howe) of Verona Beach; nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Elizabeth Fleming of Fairport; and four very special nephews who were like sons, William (Susan) Fleming, Jr., Shawn (Melissa) Fleming, John (Marianne) Still and James (Linda) Still; and nieces Patricia Still and Ruth Lemon Still.

Besides her husband, Liz was predeceased by her brother William Fleming; three son-in-laws, Dale Horning, Eric Horning and Robert Campbell; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jean C. Still and J. T. (Theodore) Still; and two special nephews, W. Jeffrey Still and Jerry Still.

Liz enjoyed 68 years of life “at the lake” where she will be missed by her family, friends and neighbors.

The family also extends a very special thank you to the Hospice and Palliative Care staff, Michelle, Georgia, Natalie and Sabrina for their compassionate care of mom.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2019 from St. Joseph’s Church, Oneida where the funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Reverend Richard Kapral, pastor. Interment will be made in Glenwood Cemetery.
