Elisabeth Ewanyk, 95, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Rome Memorial Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born in Plibischken, Germany, on March 31, 1922, the daughter of the late Max and Johanna Ebel Wenzel. On February 7, 1953, she was united in marriage to Mikolaj “Nick” Ewanyk in Bradford, England. He passed away on December 24, 2000. Elisabeth and Nick came to the United States in 1954 and settled in Floyd.
Elisabeth worked for Camden Upholstery and Rothbard’s Upholstery for several years. She was an expert seamstress and was recognized state and nation wide for her needle work.
She was a member of the Floyd Methodist Church, the Floyd Senior Citizens and enjoyed gardening and polka dancing.
Elisabeth is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Lori Ewanyk of Floyd; a sister, Marlene Schubmann of Germany; a granddaughter, Nicole Ewanyk and her significant other, Kelby Miller; two great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Blake; a brother-in-law, Gunter Hoffman of Germany; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Gertraud Hoffman; and two brothers, Harfried and Karl Wentzel.
Elisabeth’s family would like to extend their thanks to the nurses and CNAs on the 3rd Floor at Rome Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 7 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Interment will take place in Rome Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday prior to the service from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Elisabeth’s memory may be made to the Floyd Fire Department.
