Elected officials disregard America’s future

I am writing you today to express my growing dismay over how little the United States Senate and House of Representatives accomplished in 2021. My primary concern is the shameful disregard our elected officials have for America’s future. They have been cutting and defunding needed programs in infrastructure, health care, climate change, education, and family support.

More importantly, voter rights are being suppressed. Rather than constructive action, mostly Republican Legislators have shown plenty of angst about inflation, getting re-elected, fighting President Biden’s agenda, and supporting Former President Trump’s false claims of the 2020 “Stolen” Election.

Our American Democracy is having some real problems. By breaking us up into various factions, our elected officials produce deep divisions that could lead our country into an autocracy. Representative Democracy requires that our legislators work cooperatively with each other, and that they do not shirk their responsibilities to our citizens. In turn, our citizens must not give-up the fight to preserve our democracy.
The future is already here. “Let us put our minds together to see what Life we can make our children.” (Quote of: Tatanka Iyotanka, Sitting Bull) To ignore the future, is to ignore our children and grandchildren. We do not have time to waste on divisiveness and political sniping. I call on our elected officials to lead us to a higher common ground.
