Eleanor Jones Pillmore Sexton

WESTERNVILLE – Eleanor Jones Pillmore Sexton, age 100, passed away on October 6, 2022, at the Rome Health Residential Healthcare Facility.

Born on February 5, 1922, in Rochester, NY, she was the daughter of William Roy and Mabel Jones Pillmore. She moved to Westernville in 1929. She graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1938, and the Utica School of Commerce in 1941. She worked at Rome Cable for 5 years. She Married Donald A. Sexton on April 15, 1944 in the First Methodist Church of Rome, in a double ceremony with Donald’s sister Shirley, and Vincent Barnard.

Eleanor and her husband operated a grocery store in Westernville for 7 years.

Donald died at the Veteran’s Hospital in Syracuse on July 10, 1971.

Eleanor was tax collector for the Town of Western for 12 years, Treasurer of the village Chrystal Springs Water Company for over 25 years, and Trustee of the Cemetery Association.

She was an active member of the Westernville Presbyterian Church for over 70 years, where she served as Deacon. She was a member of the Westernville Home Bureau, Town Historical Society, and the Friends of Western Library.

Surviving are sons Bruce and his wife Jackie of Palm Bay, Florida, Brian and his wife Marie of Westernville, Gary and his wife Sholeh of Nashua, New Hampshire, Dennis and his wife Gail of Rome. Her son, Dale, passed away in August 2022, and her daughter, Anne, passed away in December 2019.

She had 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Rome Health Residential Healthcare Facility for their care and compassion.

Calling hours will be at the Westernville Presbyterian Church on Saturday, October 15, from 12:30-2 pm. Funeral services will immediately follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westernville Presbyterian Church.
