Eight displaced from house fire in Utica early Monday

UTICA — Eight people have been displaced from their home on Mandeville Street following a fire early Monday morning, according to the Utica Fire Department.

No residents were injured, officials said.

The alarm was raised at 6:50 a.m. for the fire at 416 Mandeville St., authorities said. Residents at home at the time of the fire escaped the home without injuries, authorities stated. Mandeville is a one-way street that runs west between Cornelia and Hart streets, on the west side of Genesee Street.

Firefighters responded to the two-story residence and reported smoke and fire at the back of the home on arrival. Authorities said the fire took about 45 minutes before it was under control. Damage was contained to the rear of the residence, on the first and second floors.

A family dog was rescued from within the home, authorities said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials said the fire likely started on the first floor.

The American Red Cross is assisting all eight residents displaced from the fire, officials said. They are providing food, shelter and clothing to four adults and four children, ages 3, 4, 5 and 11.
