Edward J. Kozak, 89, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Rome Memorial Hospital. Born in Lackawana, NY, on February 18, 1930, he was the son of the late Andrew and Lotte (Balon) Kozak. He was a 1947 graduate of Blasdell High School and went on to serve his country in the US Air Force from 1951-1955. In 1965 he was united in marriage to the late Audrey Hurlbut.
Ed worked at the Rome Daily Sentinel for 41 years. He was a Lifetime Member of the Frank J. Steczko Post, Lee American Legion and Rome VFW. Every day he would sit down with the Daily Sentinel and do the crossword puzzle in ink.
He is survived by five sons and three daughters-in-law, Edward Kozak of Rome, Richard Kozak of Ava, Mark and Janine Kozak of Cicero, James and Yolanda Kozak of Orlando, FL, and Andrew and Christine Kozak of Pelham, NH; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Bland, and two brothers, Michael and Richard Kozak.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 24, at 11 a.m. at Westernville Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
