Motorists entering or departing the Griffiss Business and Technology Park should use extra care during the summer months.

The Route 825 bridge over Route 365 near Rome Free Academy and the Orgill Distribution Center will close to all traffic beginning at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 18, the state DOT says. The closure includes the ramp from Route 825 southbound to Route 49 eastbound and the ramp from Route 49 westbound to Route 825 northbound, the DOT announcement added.

This detour will be in effect through mid-September while rehab work is done on the Route 825 bridge.

The traffic patterns in the Griffiss park have altered significantly in recent years as motorists got used to the new round-abouts and yield signs and lanes. This summer they may have to use alternate, and unfamiliar, routes to get to their destinations.

Not only for their own safety but also for the safety of highway crews, it is important for drivers to pay attention to speed limits and detour signs.

Don’t forget that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
