East Utica Neighborhood Watch group to host event on school board candidates


UTICA — The East Utica Neighborhood Watch will hold a “Wrap-Up Utica School Board Candidate Night,” from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 2, according to an announcement by event organizers.

The event will be held at the Chancellor Apartments, 417 Bleecker St.,

The event is free and open to the public, organizers said, adding “Come and listen to the Utica School Board Candidates give their wrap up speech. Remember these are our kids and our schools. Take interest.”

According to the Utica City School District website, residents have until Wednesday, April 27, to file petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the board of education.

These petitions must be filed with the Clerk of the District, located at 929 York St. no later than 5 p.m. on April 27.

District residents will be able to elect two individuals to serve on the board at the upcoming district election on Tuesday, May 17.

In addition to the board candidates, district residents will also be able to vote on the 2022-2023 Utica City School District budget.

A budget hearing for the residents will be held in the Board Room of the Utica City School District Administration building on York Street on a date and time between May 3 to May 10.

District residents will also be able to vote on Proposition No. 1 – Funding the Utica Public Library.

The proposition, to which residents can vote yes or no, reads: “Shall the sum of $850,130 be raised by annual levy of a tax upon the taxable real property within the Utica City School District for the purpose of funding the Utica Public Library?”
