Early voting for primary election opens today in Oneida County

Oneida County’s early voting period for the Tuesday, Aug. 23 primary election begins today and continues through Sunday, Aug. 21.

The early voting sites are: 

• Mohawk Valley Community College, Jorgensen Athletic Center, 1101 Sherman Drive, Utica.

• New Hartford Town Hall, The Orchards, 8635 Clinton St., New Hartford.

• South Rome Senior Center, 112 Ridge St., Rome.

• Whitestown Town Hall, 8539 Clark Mills Road, Whitesboro.

Times are:

• Aug. 13-14, 20-21: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Aug. 15-19: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Aug. 16 and 18: New Hartford location only 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Any registered Oneida County voter can vote early. Voters who vote early cannot vote again on Election Day. Early voting results will be posted after 9 p.m. Aug 23. 

The deadline to request an absentee ballot was Monday, Aug. 8. Absentee voters can mail their ballot, making sure that it is postmarked no later than Aug. 23, bring the ballot to an early voting site, bring it to the board of elections office no later than 9 p.m. Aug. 23 or bring it to a polling site by 9 p.m. Aug. 23. 

Due to a new law, absentee voters cannot cast a ballot at a voting site on Election Day if they have already received an absentee ballot. Voters who have been issued an absentee ballot can only vote in-person on Election Day if they use an affidavit ballot.  

The candidates for the 22nd Congressional District are Democrats Francis Conole, Sarah Klee Hood, Chol Majok and Samuel Roberts. The Republican candidates are Steve Wells, and Brandon Williams. 

Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-22, New Hartford, currently holds the 22nd seat, but she is now running for the 24th Congressional district.
