Drug, petty larceny charges follow shoplifting complaint
One man was charged with possessing methamphetamine and one woman was charged with petty larceny following a shoplifting complaint at Tops super market Tuesday, according to law enforcement officials.
Police said they were called to Tops at about 10:15 a.m. Tuesday for a shoplifting complaint. Police said Brittany I. Roy, 18, of Floyd Avenue, is charged with petty larceny for stealing a pair of leggings from the market.
Police said Gary L. Newell, 20, of Church Street, Camden, left the market and went into the neighboring Marshalls department store. Police said Newell was followed and was taken into custody. Police said a quantity of meth was found in his pocket, and more meth was found in his pants once he was brought back to the police station.
Newell is charged with one count of seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance, authorities said.
Both Newell and Roy are scheduled to appear in City Court.
