Driver injured after crashing into a dump truck on 49

TOWN OF FLOYD — A Rome man suffered minor injuries when he struck the back of a dump truck on Route 49 Friday morning.

Deputies said Frank Tallarino, 78, of Rome, was westbound in a 2010 Nissan Sentra when he rear-ended the 1996 truck driven by Todd Weston, 55, of Taberg.

After striking the dump truck at 11:11 a.m., Tallarino’s car hit the guide rail in the center median, causing the vehicle to roll over onto its roof. Tallarino was treated at the scene by members of AmCare Ambulance and transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, for complaints of back pain, deputies said. Weston was not injured.

Tallarino was charged with unsafe lane change and will appear in Town Court.

State police and Floyd Fire Department assisted.
