UTICA — A 24-year-old man charged in a motor vehicle crash that killed two people in Boonville was found guilty on all counts in Oneida County Court on Monday, according to court officials.

The jury began deliberations late Friday afternoon following the week-long trial for Rakwan D. Marshall, of Liverpool, Onondaga County, officials said.

Deliberations continued Monday morning for several hours before Marshall was found guilty of two counts of second-degree manslaughter, one count of second-degree assault, and several vehicle and traffic violations, including speeding and reckless driving, according to the court officials.

Marshall is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on July 6. He faces a maximum of 15 to 30 years in state prison.

Authorities said at about 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12, 2020, Marshall was southbound on Route 12 in Boonville when he veered into the northbound lane in order to pass the vehicle ahead of him.

Authorities said Marshall’s 2020 Mercedes crashed head-on into an oncoming 2010 Chrysler Sebring, driven by Sarah J. Stinebrickner, of Boonville.

A passenger in the Chrysler, 42-year-old Cary A. Croniser, of Boonville, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

A passenger in Marshall’s vehicle, 19-year-old Yairis Brito, died several days later in a hospital, authorities stated.
