Dr. Denis Bourgeau passed away suddenly at the age of 85 on May 4, 2018, in Montreal. He is survived by his loving second wife of 23 years, Nicole Daunais, and predeceased by his beloved first wife of 35 years and wonderful mother of his children, Jill Elizabeth Pearce. Dr. Bourgeau, aka “Papa”, will be dearly missed by his children Michel (Jill), Paul (Livia), Marc (Kathy), Guy (Lori) and Stephanie. He was a devoted and doting grandfather to Lucas, Lauren, Alex, Sara, Gabriel, Daniel, Sophia and Isabelle; brother to Pierre (Lise) and uncle to Nicolas, Isabelle and Melanie. He was predeceased by his sister Simone.
An accomplished and recognized orthopedic surgeon, he was very well respected by his peers and staff for his talent in the operating room as well as his great bedside manner and calm demeanor. Dr. Bourgeau studied in Montreal and Paris and enjoyed practicing in Rome and the surrounding area for over 10 years between 1982-1994 as well as in Montreal for over 20 years before relocating to central New York. He was an avid reader with a keen interest in politics, history and the cosmos. To his family he was a paella master chef, trusted sage, lover of jazz and classical music, sports car aficionado, movie buff, hearty consumer of fine foods, especially chocolate and key lime pie. He instilled athleticism in his children as an avid tennis player, skier, swimmer, sailor and golfer. His family is blessed and privileged to have had him with them for so long, may he forever rest in peace. Private ceremonies will be held at a later date in Ottawa and Montreal.
