Downstate man hospitalized in snowmobile crash in Ava

TOWN OF AVA — A 33-year-old man was hospitalized after he was thrown off his snowmobile into a tree Sunday morning.

Sheriff’s deputies said James Moroney, 33, of Wallkill, Ulster County, was riding southbound on Trail C4A when his 2018 Ski-Doo caught the edge of the trail and overturned just south of East Ava Road. Deputies said Moroney was thrown from the sled into a tree, causing head, shoulder and chest injuries.

Moroney was treated at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica. Deputies said Moroney’s speed did not appear to be a factor in the crash, so he was not ticketed.
