“Dolly Parton’s 50-Year Career: From Appalachia to Nashville & Back,” a talk by Hamilton College music professor Lydia Hamessley, will take place at 7:30 pm. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at The Other Side, 2011 Genesee St., Utica.
Parton’s musical heritage is Appalachian and many of her songs reveal the influence of traditional Appalachian music. In this talk Hamessley will demonstrate this mountain influence in her songs across all phases of her career and will discuss the ways that she presents her mountain girl image in order to be viewed as “authentically” Appalachian even as she presents herself as a hyper-sexualized superstar.
The talk is free to the public. For information call 315-735-4825 or email email@example.com.
