Does where we live matter?

Students in Mrs. Darcangelo’s 4th grade class at John E. Joy spent most of the first quarter studying New York State.

The first unit in the fourth grade Social Studies curriculum poses the question: Does where we live matter? Students used many different types of maps including physical maps, climate maps, and vegetation maps to answer the question.

The final assessment for this unit was a project based learning assessment. Students worked in groups and were asked to create a map of New York State, present their map to the class, and answer the question: “Does where we live matter?” All of the students did in excellent job assigning roles for the group project, gathering information, and presenting!
