Do not wish away your days

Posted

I do not know how many times over the last year I have thought to myself, “I wish this COVID stuff was over.” I just want life to go back to normal. I want to be past the pain it has caused so many of us.

Now that I think about it, these thoughts are not just related COVID. There are many days I wish away. I cannot wait until my kids are older. I could not wait to graduate college or start a new job. Can you relate?

What if God wants us to look at time differently?

Moses writes in Psalm 90:12 “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”Time flies and life is uncertain, so Moses asks God for wisdom to account for his time. Moses teaches us that a heart of wisdom values the moments and days God has given each one of us.

How do we really do this?

We don’t know what tomorrow brings so dedicate today to the Lord. Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Each morning give that day to the Lord. Rejoice that God has given you another day and dedicate it to Him.

Live on Purpose. What is your purpose in life? Are you living out your purpose? We aren’t wishing away our days when we are living out our purpose. Purpose begins with Jesus and the life He brings.

Redeem the time. Ephesians 5:15-16 says, “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” The translation of “making the most of every opportunity,” means to redeem the time. Everyday you have multiple opportunities come across your path. What are you doing with them? Are you using them to Love God and Love Others? Are you using them for good? Are you allowing to see God’s purpose and plans in these opportunities?

Take Refuge. Moses begins Psalm 90 like this, “Lord, you have been our dwelling place
throughout all generations.” No matter what comes your way God wants you to find refuge and strength in Him. Rather than wishing your days away, the short time you have, find your enjoyment and refuge in God during those days. When life is hard, don’t wish it away, press harder into God! Seek Him more, take refuge in Him!

To truly walk in these four, Jesus must redeem our hearts so we can see time differently. Jesus redeems our souls unto salvation and He also redeems the time and changes the way we see life. I encourage you not to wish away your days but rather take hold of each day, they are a gift from God, and He wants those who follow Him to see time from His perspective.
