DMV joins Donate Life Month campaign

Posted

The Oneida County Department of Motor Vehicles is teaming up with the New York State Alliance for Donation and DMV offices around the state to increase awareness of organ and tissue donation during April, Donate Life Month, a national observance of the critical need for organ, eye and tissue donation.

Enrolling in the Donate Life Registry is a way to ensure that an individual’s wishes about donation will be known at the time of their death. New York has the third highest need for donors in the country, yet the second lowest percentage of registered donors.

Nearly 9,500 New Yorkers are in need of lifesaving organ transplants, and each year about 400 New Yorkers die due to a shortage of donors, according to the donation alliance.
