Disney songs performed Feb. 11


LYONS FALLS — “Disney Dazzle!,” a concert of Disney music from several popular movies and musicals, will be performed by the Adirondack Community Chorus at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11 at the Forest Presbyterian Church.

The concert will be directed by Peg Nuspliger. Accompanists will be Ruth Hedeen on piano and Bill Sawyer on percussion. 

The Adirondack Youth Choir, consisting of about 20 elementary students from Adirondack Central School, will be featured singing, “Touch the Sky” from Brave, under the direction of Claire Haile, accompanied by Nuspliger and Shannon Chamberlain on piccolo.

The rest of the concert will feature more than 40 Disney songs from movies and musicals including “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Hercules,” “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and “Mary Poppins.” Arrangements come from three medleys called “Disney Dazzle!,” “Disney Movie Magic” and “Disney Spectacular.”

Some highlights of the performance will be Jonathan Kornmeyer and Kaden Thompsen singing “I Can’t Wait to Be King” from the Lion King and Jake Brach singing and dancing in “I’ve Got No Strings” from Pinocchio. Brach will also appear in “Step in Time” from Mary Poppins, along with dancers Anna Engstrom, Michael Ferris, Rebekah Hedeen and Evy Simanowski.  

Engstrom is the concert choreographer, and Ferris is the announcer. 

Ferris is also one of the soloists, along with Alesa Bernat, Shannon Chamberlain, Todd Galarneau, Claire Haile, Steve Kennison, Don Mallette, Terry Marcy, Jason Matteson and Evy Simanowski. 

The ACC consists of 57 singers from throughout the area, including Barneveld, Boonville, Copenhagen, Forestport, Glenfield, Inlet, Lowville, Lyons Falls, Old Forge, Port Leyden, Remsen, Rodman, Rome, Turin, and West Leyden.

Members range in age from eight to over 90.

The concert is free for the public. Any donations made to the ACC will go to purchase music for future concerts and are tax deductible.
