Rome man charged with stealing for fifth time in three months, police say

ROME — A 42-year-old man has been charged with stealing for the fifth time in three months in Rome, according to the Rome Police Department.

Police said Lynn J. Derrick, of Rome, stole a bicycle off a front porch on Floyd Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. May 25. The owner told police that he got an alert on his phone from his home security cameras. A warrant was issued for Derrick and he was taken into custody on Tuesday.

Derrick is charged with one count of petty larceny, police said. He is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court.

Meanwhile, police said Derrick has also previously been charged with shoplifting from Walgreens on South James Street on March 16; charged with stealing $8 worth of food from Byrne Dairy on Erie Boulevard on April 14; charged with stealing $600 worth of merchandise from Marshalls on April 14; and charged with stealing $1,000 worth of merchandise from Marshalls on April 30. The cases remain ongoing in City Court.
