VERNON CENTER — The new owners at the Parkside Deli on Route 26 raised more than $300 for the Vernon Center Fire Department last month, according to an announcement by fire department officials.
A check for $345 was handed off to the department at their business meeting Tuesday
evening, said Fire Chief Pete Ropetski. “They decided that they wanted to be involved in the community. They wanted to just show their support for the fire department,” the chief stated.
“We have a very, very strong community backbone. We’re blessed.”
Ropetski said Cristie and Rich Sweet, who took over the deli in the spring, put aside one
dollar from the sale of every
large submarine sandwich in June and raised $300. He said the extra $45 came from other donations.
The chief said the money will be tucked away for now to be spent on “something special” in the future. The Vernon Center Fire Department has 24 active members. The firehouse is located on Youngs Road.
