DEC closes seasonal mud gates on forest lands, preserves

Posted

Mud gates to trails and seasonal roads in the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Region 6 are closed effective immediately on forest preserve, state forest and conservation easement lands, the DEC has announced.

The closures are due to the spring thaw and muddy conditions, the DEC announced
today.

Motor vehicle use during the spring mud season will damage roads and result in road opening delays, the DEC said. The DEC will reopen the roads once any necessary maintenance is completed and the roads become dry enough to safely handle motor vehicle traffic.

Region 6 consists of Oneida, Lewis, Jefferson, St. Lawrence and Herkimer counties.
