Utica Curling Club set to host 73rd annual women’s Bonspiel Feb. 23-27


WHITESBORO — The Utica Curling Club is set to host the 73rd annual United States Women’s Curling Association National Championship.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 23, to Sunday, Feb. 27, at the curling club, which is located at 8300 Clark Mills Road in Whitesboro. It is the fifth time that UCC will host the event with it previously being in 1952, 1961, 1982 and 1998. The USWCA  is a volunteer organization and has 85 club members and almost 5000 individual members.

There are 32 teams from the United States that will be competing for the top prize of a silver plated punch bowl. The championship was last held in 2020 at the Granite Curling Club in Seattle.

The Centerville Curling Club from Wisconsin led by skip Laura Roessler and supported by Sara Hein, Elyse Sorenson and Ericka Overgard won that event and is entered in this tournament. 

Two teams from Utica are set to participate in the the Bonspiel, one skipped by Cindy Brown and accompanied by Carol Jones, Barb Felice, and Kathy Palazzoli.

The second Utica team is led by skip Anne Stuhlman with members Liz Kaido, Melissa Foote and Erlene Puleo.

Utica managed to win the championship once in 1967.

The Opening Ceremony is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Feb. 23. Competition will commence 8 a.m. Feb. 24. For more information, visit the club’s website www.uticacurlingclub.org.
