Cupp claims women’s crown in Japan Speedgolf Open

GOTEMBA, Japan — Rome’s Lauren Cupp raced to victory in the Japan Speedgolf Open, where she beat out the biggest field of the year.

Cupp fired an 82 in 57:03 for a 139:03 to capture the national title and retain her spot atop the world rankings. 

Anna Minami finished second with an 81 in 63:35 for a 144:35 total. 

The Open also had the biggest field for men this year. There, Wes Cupp, ranked fourth in the world, finished third in the championship.

Joe Matsui retained his national title for the sixth consecutive time with a 77 in 46:22 for a 123:22 total. Ireland’s Rob Hogan had an 84 in 42:11 for a 126:11, good enough for second place. Cupp had a 79 in 49:22 for a 128:22 total.

The 2020 World Championship will be held in Japan in November. This will be the first time the event will take place outside of the U.S.
