Criminal mischief charged in Rome
ROME — A 44-year-old woman who asked for police help in retrieving her property on West North Street Saturday morning was taken into custody for causing damage while officers were on the scene, according to the Rome Police Department.
Police said Cammie J. Jones, of Rome, asked for a peace officer to help her retrieve property from an ex-companion's home in the 100 block of W. North St. at about noon on Saturday. The officer went to help and the ex-companion brought out her belongings without incident, authorities stated.
Jones then asked to go inside the home to retrieve something else, police said. While inside, and while the officer was still on the scene, police said Jones went to a second-floor bedroom and damaged a dresser and its drawers.
Jones is charged with one count of fourth-degree mischief, police said. She is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court.
