Two people were hospitalized after a two-vehicle collision on Oswego Road was caused by
one driver reaching below his feet for a dropped water bottle, according to law enforcement officials.
Sheriff’s deputies said Dillon Meagher, 24, of Ilion, was eastbound shortly after 5 p.m. when he dropped a water bottle under his feet in his 2005 Ford.
Deputies said Meagher reached for the water bottle just as he was entering a blind corner, causing his Ford to swerve into the oncoming lane.
Deputies said the Ford collided with a westbound 1999 Ford Mustang, driven by Thomas Foster, age 70. Authorities said both Foster and his passenger, 62-year-old Paula Foster, were taken to Rome Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The accident remains under investigation.
