TOWN OF FLORENCE — An Oswego County driver was injured in a one-vehicle crash on Route 13 Friday night.
Deputies said Mitchell Longley, 70, of West Monroe, was driving his 2014 Chevrolet pickup eastbound when he experienced a medical emergency, causing his vehicle to drift over to the westbound lane before exiting the north shoulder of the roadway at 8:25 p.m. Longley drove into a ditch, then struck a small embankment and culvert pipe before coming to rest in a ditch with a slightly sloped embankment, causing the pickup to lean on its passenger side, deputies said.
The angle that the truck came to rest made it difficult to remove the victim without first anchoring the vehicle. When they first arrived, deputies said Longley was conscious but incoherent.
Longley was evaluated at the scene and later transported by Camden and Florence Ambulance services to Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, for back pain and further evaluation.
