MARCY — Three corrections officers were injured — including one bitten on the hand — while trying to subdue an inmate at the Marcy Correctional Facility, according to the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association.

Union officials said an officer was patting down an inmate in the facility on Aug. 18 when he felt an object in the inmate’s pants. The inmate was brought to another location for a full frisk, and authorities said he tried to reach for and discard the object.

Officials said it was a razor blade attached to a pen barrel.

Several officers responded to the area and wrestled with the inmate while he tried to either discard the weapon, swallow it or run, officials stated. During the scuffle, the inmate bit one of the corrections officers on the hand, breaking the skin, authorities said.

The inmate was eventually subdued, handcuffed and brought to the infirmary.

Officials said the inmate, whose identity was not released, is serving a 15-year sentence for a shooting in Schenectady County in 2013.

The officer who was bitten on the hand was treated at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, authorities said.

Another officer and a sergeant were treated at the facility for knee, hip, ankle and elbow injuries, officials stated.
