SYRACUSE — Ivy League men’s lacrosse champion Cornell ousted Syracuse in the first round of the NCAA tournament with a 10-9 victory on Sunday at the Carrier Dome.
Cornell’s Colton Rupp scored the winning goal with a man-up advantage with 5:35 remainiing.
Clarke Petterson scored a game-high five goals for the ninth-seeded Big Red.
Eighth-seeded Syracuse got two goals apiece from Tucker Dordevic, Jamie Trimboli and Brendan Bomberry.
Syracuse finished the season with a record of 8-7.
Cornell, 13-4, advances to the quarterfinals next Sunday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis against top-seeded Maryland.
Defending champion Maryland scored a 14-11 first-round win over Robert Morris.
