NEW HARTFORD — In remembrance of all children who have died, the Compassionate Friends of the Mohawk Valley will host a local candle lighting, as part of the Compassionate Friends worldwide candle lighting event, from 7-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 at First United Methodist Church of New Hartford, 105 Genesee St.

The Compassionate Friends of the Mohawk Valley is an organization dedicated to providing a safe environment to actively help families work toward the positive resolution of their grief following the death of a child.

“This is an inspirational way to not only remember a child who has died, but also to receive emotional support during the holiday season from those who have also lost a child, as well as supportive members of our community,” said Dave Roberts, chapter leader.

There will be readings and live music during the ceremony. The event is free.

Those who plan on attending are asked to make a reservation via e-mail by Dec. 5 to tcfmohawkvalley@gmail.com and include a JPEG picture of your son/daughter, brother/sister and grandson/granddaughter for the ceremony, along with his/her name, date of birth and date of death. Those who have attended previous candle lighting ceremonies and wish to use the same picture of your child, are asked to inform the organization.

Sign in will take place on the evening of the event from 5:45-6:45 p.m. For further information, call 315-736-8684.
