A tip of our baseball cap goes to Smith Post, which had a fine season, earning a trip to the American Legion
state baseball tournament.
Despite the eventual loss to Hamburg Post, the Smith Post players performed well,
trying for another big comeback that fell short.
Head coach Ryan Hickey has every right to be proud of his team.
At one point, he noted, Smith Post was 2-3. But Smith rallied to finish the regular season 13-5 second in the Navy Division of District V. The team even beat Whitestown, which was undefeated in the regular season, to win the district title and advance to states, where they beat Clinton County 8-4 between two losses.
The Rome team last won a state title in 1998. Congratulations for the terrific effort.
