The Utica Comets won Saturday at home then earned a point Sunday in a road overtime loss, capping a run of three games in three days.
After rallying for a 5-2 win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Friday, the Comets went right back to work Saturday, again overcoming a 2-0 deficit at the Utica Aud en route to another 5-2 win.
Reid Boucher earned his first hat trick of the season, while Zack MacEwen chipped in with a goal and three assists for a four-point night. Jonathan Dahlen also found the net for Utica. Michael Leighton 25 saves to earn his third straight win, his second in two days.
Wayne Simpson scored a minute into the game to give the Amerks an early 1-0 lead. Victor Olofsson doubled the lead with a power play goal at the 14:49 mark of the first period.
On Sunday, the Comets fell 5-4 in overtime to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on the road, but earned a point in the standings.
Scoring goals for the Comets were Tanner Kero, Luke Schenn, Dahlen and Brendan Gaunce, with Gaunce’s goal being short-handed.
Tanner Fritz scored the game-winning goal on a one-timer.
The Comets are back at it Wednesday when they host the Laval Rocket. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
MacEwen gets called up
In a roster move, the parent Vancouver Canucks recalled forward Zack MacEwen from the Comets.
The 22-year-old forward has scored 17 goals and 25 assists along with 49 penalty minutes this season with Utica. In 115 career AHL games MacEwen has recorded 75 points (27 goals) and 105 penalty minutes. The native of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island had a career high four-point game Saturday for the Comets.
MacEwen originally signed with Vancouver as a free agent in 2017.
