UTICA — The Utica Comets announced the addition of a veteran defenseman to the roster Wednesday. The team also announced it has renewed its partnership with local broadcaster Nexstar for televised home games this season.
Wotherspoon brings experience
The Comets have signed defenseman Tyler Wotherspoon for the 2021-2022 season.
Wotherspoon, 28, spent last season with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms where he skated in 24 games registering six assists. The Surrey, Britich Columbia, native played in 433 AHL games in his career scoring 26 goals and 122 assists. Drafted by the Calgary Flames in the second round in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Wotherspoon played 30 games over four seasons for Calgary tallying five assists. Wotherspoon, 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, will join the Comets as they prepare for the home opener on Sunday at 3 p.m. against the Rochester Americans at the Adirondack Bank Center.
Comets on TV
Nexstar will broadcast all 36 Comets home games, as well as any home postseason games, live on WPNY channel 12 (Spectrum Cable), and they will be available over the air on channel 20.2. WPNY is the Mynetwork TV affiliate for the Mohawk Valley. WPNY is also available via the Spectrum streaming app.
The broadcasts will include in-depth looks into the team and coaching staff to give fans a behind-the-scenes perspective on the players who comprise the Utica Comets. The games will be broadcast by voice of the Utica Comets, Jason Shaya, who enters his 17th season as a play-by-play broadcaster and second with Utica. Joining Shaya throughout the season will be numerous local hockey experts.
Fans can watch all Comets home and away contests on AHLTV or tune in to 94.9 FM, the official radio station of the Comets, where Michael Lehr will call Comets’ home games. Fans can also tune in via the Comets live Twitter game day feed for up-to-the-minute game day statistics.
